Harlequins sign a quartet of international players ahead of the new season

Harlequins are pleased to announce the signing of four senior international players ahead of the 2024/25 Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby Season.

Swedish forward Maja Meuller joins Harlequins from Loughborough Lightning, where she spent the past three and a half years, amassing 48 appearances for the East Midlands side. Meuller is a versatile athlete capable of covering both hooker and back-row, and represents her National side in Sevens and 15s.

Joining her club teammate is Canadian back-row Sara Svoboda, who makes the move to South-West London following a five-year stint with Loughborough Lightning. The 29-year-old has represented her country 26 times, and is set to become the first Canadian International to wear the Quarters.

Spain Women’s Captain Laura ‘Bimba’ Delgado joins Harlequins from Allianz PWR Champions Gloucester-Hartpury. Delgado joined the Cherry and Whites in 2022 from Exeter Chiefs, where she was part of the Allianz Cup winning side the same year. Prior to her career in rugby, Bimba was an international level hammer thrower.

“We are really pleased with the signing of these four experienced internationals ahead of the 24-25 season. I’m excited to see what they will add to the squad as not only quality players, but more importantly as good people.”

Finally, Welsh vice-captain Alex Callender (above) joins Harlequins from Welsh Regional side Brython Thunder. Callender is one the most exciting prospects in Welsh Rugby and at just 23 has already made 37 appearances for her country, making her debut against France in 2018 aged 18. The openside flanker played every minute for her side in the 2024 Guinness Women’s Six Nations, finishing as the tournament’s top tackler and ball carrier.

Harlequins Forwards Coach Steve Halsey said: “We are really pleased with the signing of these four experienced internationals ahead of the 24-25 season. Having worked with previously or spoken to during their recruitment, I’m excited to see what they will add to the squad as not only quality players, but more importantly as good people that will help drive this squad forward this season.”
