Sharks recruited a number of internationals for their inaugural season in the league, including Red Roses icon Katy Daley-Mclean, who has since retired and become the club’s Women’s Performance Lead. USA Eagles such as Catie Benson, Nick James and Katana Howard also signed on, joining Ireland’s Vicky Irwin and Lauren Delany as well as a host of homegrown talent, including Laura Perrin and Georgie Perris-Redding.
The Sharks secured their first win of the Premier 15s era early in the season – an 11-0 victory against Worcester Warriors at The CorpAcq Stadium in Round 5 of the 2020/21 season - but finished the campaign in ninth place. Another ninth-place finish followed the following season, this time under the guidance of the newly appointed coaching team of Daley-Mclean and former Wales captain Rachel Taylor.
Sharks’ breakthrough season came in 2022-23, as the profile of the women’s game in the north grew through the club’s Northern Rugby Matters campaign, and internationals including Italian Sara Tounesi and USA Eagle Alycia Washington, as well as local stars including fly-half Lizzie Duffy, helped the club to seventh place.
And they’ll be looking to kick on in 2023-24 after they secured the signings of Red Roses Morwenna Talling and Detysha Harper, as well as former England and current Ireland flanker Jo Brown.
