Head coach LJ Lewis has confirmed her England U20 Women’s matchday teams to face the Springbok Women’s side in Marcoussis, France this Saturday (12pm BST kick-off).
Following the conclusion of the Premiership Women’s Rugby season, England will provide matchday experience for a handful of U23 squad members to increase development opportunities for a wider base of players this weekend.
The nations meet at the National Rugby Centre south of the French capital in preparation for England’s involvement in this year’s Six Nations Women’s Summer Series.
Loughborough Lightning hooker Lucy Calladine will captain her country for the first time after being entrusted with the leadership role for 2025. Recent Premiership Women’s Rugby winner with Gloucester-Hartpury, Millie Hyett, will anchor the team in the game’s second period.
First involvements at U20 level are awarded to 12 of the 25 selected players in this weekend’s non-capped international fixture.
LJ Lewis said: “Facing a senior South Africa side will be a physical test for our players and raise the levels of competition within the squad we want to achieve heading into the preparation for our Six Nations.
“The fixture is an exciting one for all involved and welcoming back some of our U23 cohort will bring the balance of physicality and experience to our group’s mindset.
“A focused and courageous approach will be required from our players from the outset, as we look to set out our principle of play through winning physical moments both sides of the ball.”
