Venner, Bern, McGhie, Aldcroft, Konkel and Moore lead the way in PWR Round 17

Gloucester-Hartpury sealed top spot in the Premiership Women's Rugby table at the weekend sealing a home semi-final against Bristol Bears after another compelling round of PWR action.

The Bears were first out of the traps in Round 17, winning at Harlequins to put themselves in the semi-final driving seat and once Exeter Chiefs had lost at Saracens, the Bears place in the semi-finals was guaranteed.

After the win for Sarries and defeat for Quins we do know the other semi-final will be a London derby although which team will be at home will be decided this Friday as Round 18 matches all kick off at exactly the same time.

The battle for sixth took another twist with Trailfinders losing at home to Leicester Tigers. The argument will be settled on Friday when Loughborough Lightning host Trailfinders in a fitting end to the season.

From Round 17 there were a number of exceptional performances including:

  • Sarah Bern (Bristol Bears) made more carries than any other player at the weekend (23), a round-high 11 of which were dominant. She also made 55 post-contact metres and scored a try.
  • Mia Venner (Gloucester-Hartpury) scored a hat-trick at the weekend and beat a round-high 11 defenders. She has now scored seven tries in her last six appearances.
  • Francesca McGhie (Leicester Tigers) scored three tries in Round 17 - the second hat-trick by a Leicester Tiger this season. She also made a round-high six clean breaks and 185 metres.
  • Zoe Aldcroft (Gloucester-Hartpury) assisted two tries and scored one herself at the weekend. She also made 16 successful tackles.
